The St. Augustine pilgrimage invites you to visit Florida’s “oldest city” differently than a tourist. We will move through the city, stopping in 8 locations, with openness to learning from the stories of racial resilience, struggle, courage, trauma and transformation. It is an invitation to encounter, reflect and transform.
Encounter stories of both racial trauma and transformation present in the community.
Reflect on these stories using a framework that deepens appreciation for your own story and that of others. In the process of encounter and reflection, become reconciled to yourself and others in transforming ways.
Allow six hours to go through the city, visit the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center, have lunch, debrief your experience together and take home some tools for continuing the healing work of cross-cultural hospitality in your own community. Depending on your needs, this experience can be included as part of a multi-day training in the tools and strategies for building communities of belonging.
The St. Augustine experience explores God's presence in the stories of both racial trauma and transformation woven throughout the city's history.
Many participants tell us, "I never knew these stories—and I've been coming here all my life." Through this experience, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the history of racism and the ongoing work of racial justice while being inspired to listen more deeply to the stories in your own community.
